ChatGPT Ads Will Start Rewriting Your Campaigns on October 29 — Here's How to Opt Out
By UVIDSTUDIO · October 25, 2026 · 7 min read · Strategy & Growth
OpenAI is flipping "creative enhancements" from opt-in to on-by-default for every self-serve ChatGPT Ads campaign this week, letting its AI rewrite your headlines, translate your copy, resize your images, and swap your destination URL without approval. Here's what changes and how to turn it off before the deadline.
If you run paid campaigns on ChatGPT Ads, OpenAI is about to start editing your ad creative for you — and unless you act this week, you will not get a say in each individual change. A setting that used to be opt-in is becoming opt-out, and the switch date is days away.
What happened
OpenAI emailed ChatGPT Ads advertisers that "creative enhancements" — a feature that can rewrite ad headlines and descriptions, translate ad text, resize images, and even redirect clicks to a different landing page on the advertiser's own site — will turn on automatically for new and existing self-serve campaigns this week. OpenAI's own help article sets the automatic-enablement date as Thursday, October 29, 2026, while the advertiser email cited October 30; either way, OpenAI's help page says you can opt out "before October 29" or change the setting at any time in Ads Manager, so treat the earlier date as the real deadline.
The feature itself is not new — OpenAI launched it on September 16, 2026 as an opt-in tool limited to rewriting and translating text, PPC Land reported. What changed this month is the default and the scope: it now covers images and destination URLs too, and OpenAI can generate and run these variations without an advertiser approving each one, whether prepared in advance or produced in real time. Search Engine Land and Search Engine Roundtable both confirmed the same shift from their own copies of OpenAI's notice. The toggle lives in Ads Manager under "Manage settings," campaign-level settings override the account default, and any opt-out you already have in place stays in place.

Why it matters for small businesses
Most small businesses running ChatGPT Ads do not have a dedicated PPC team watching every campaign daily — which is exactly the gap this change opens. A rewritten headline that drifts off brand voice, a resized image that crops out your logo, or a swapped destination URL that sends traffic to the wrong page can all ship without anyone reviewing them first. It is the same risk we flagged when Google folded ads into AI Mode's answer experience: the platforms that sell your ad inventory are also the ones now editing what you paid to say, and the burden is on the advertiser to notice. For a business that has spent real budget tuning Google Ads copy and landing pages to convert, having an AI system silently test variations against that work — on a channel most teams check far less often than Google or Meta — is a real exposure, not a theoretical one.
What to do this week
Three things are worth doing before Thursday, in this order. 1. Log into ChatGPT Ads Manager now and check your current setting. Go to account-level "Manage settings" and confirm whether creative enhancements already show as enabled — some accounts had it on from the September opt-in rollout and may not realize it. 2. Decide per campaign, not just per account. If you run one campaign where tightly controlled brand language matters (regulated claims, exact pricing, a specific CTA) and another where more experimentation is fine, use the campaign-level override rather than an all-or-nothing account setting — campaign settings take priority over the account default. 3. If you keep it on, audit weekly instead of ignoring it. Pull the ad variations ChatGPT Ads actually served at least once a week and compare them against your approved copy and destination pages; treat it the same way you'd treat an automation workflow you did not build yourself — useful, but not something you let run unsupervised indefinitely.
ChatGPT Ads is still a small slice of most small-business ad budgets compared to Google or Meta, but defaults like this one are exactly how a minor platform becomes a liability nobody budgeted time to watch. If your team in Jersey City, Hudson County, or anywhere in the NYC metro is running paid campaigns across more platforms than you have hours to audit, that oversight — catching changes like this one before they cost you a lead, not after — is what our advertising and media buying team handles for clients every week.
